Stimulating Surface

Spring 2015

Surface Textures, Concept Restaurant

This surface exploration strives to translate the cultural rituals and practices of Tibet, a hybrid of India and China rich in sensory data into materials to create a sensory experience. The idea is to treat materials as something that can offer to all senses, not just sight and touch. The tiles and screens designed for a concept tibetan restaurant focus on how people interact with the space and navigate through it as well as the interaction between the food, smell, materials and experience of eating. This creates a sensory hierarchy as all five senses are activated as the dining experience becomes performative. The project explores the way materials could categorize space based on their tactile, visual, acoustical and olfactory attributes.
